Fidus Writer was made possible by numerous volunteers contributing code and ideas. Some of the operational costs have also been covered by donations. Additionally, funding has made it possible to have people work on Fidus Writer over longer periods of time.

The Cluster of Excellence ROOTS at Kiel University sponsored the development of features related to Open Journal System integration, downloadable document templates, working with tracked changes and other features relevant for the Humanities (2021).

The Open Science Lab at the TIB Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology University Library has sponsored the development of features related to book publishing, document management and GitHub integration (2020-2021).

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has created a series of Wiki articles with tutorial videos (2020-2021) and signed a service contract for the maintenance of their own instance of Fidus Writer. The documentation is aimed at their own students and staff, but they are sufficiently generic to also be helpful to other Fidus Writer users.

AlienTT has sponsored the development of features related to templates and offline editing in the period 2018-2020. The TYPEWISER development team continues to send us fixes and patched.

The German government-funded German Research Foundation, DFG (German: Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft), finances the OSCOSS research project 2015-2017 that involves developing various components related to Fidus Writer at the University of Bonn and GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences

The Chilean government’s Production Development CorporationCORFO (Spanish: Corporación de Fomento de la Producción de Chile), funded Fidus Writer development over 6 months when it was launched in 2013 through the Startup Chile program.
